This pattern starts off like CZT Mary Masi's Insydout, but
in adding another step, it takes on a new look.

The curving lines in the first 2 steps are continuous
lines from top to bottom, and then side to side.
Each new line mirrors the one before it.

and morphs into Lovely Loops on the right.

While it says to start in a corner of the area you're filling,
you can also start on an edge.
The tile below has examples of both Spoon Flowers and Lovely Loops.

  1. What is the tangle pattern to the right of UP and DOWN shown above? It looks like it is cascading down the tile. I’ve never seen this before. I’s really cool. Thank you!

  2. What is the pattern that looks like rolling or cascading stairs (above your Up and Down pattern which I love by the way)? I would like to know how that cascading effect is achieved. Thanks for all your good work.o

  3. Several people have asked about the pattern on the top of the sample tile with Up n Down. Maria put this pattern up on the zentangle.com blog back on February 25th of this year. She didn’t give it a name, but gave a little history of how it came about. It is a fun (and pretty easy) pattern. Go to http://www.zentangle.com/ , click on ‘blog’ and look for February in the archives on the right. While you’re on the site, sign up for their blog (if you haven’t already )!

  4. What is the name of the pattern in the middle of your tangle that includes both Spoon Flowers and Lovely Loops?

    • Hi Jennifer,
That pattern is a variation of ‘Shauna’ which is one of the patterns above. Lines are added to the squares with the dots, and in the other squares, the white and black are reversed and shading is added. Hope that helps! If I’ve confused you let me know and send you the steps :)

  5. Just found your patterns. They are wonderful. Thank you for sharing and allowing them to be copied for personal use. I can’t wait to try them.

  6. Thank you for sharing your awesome talents! I’m new to the tangle process and am loving all the cool patterns! What a fun form of art!

  7. I love your patterns, I just found this site. My question is, new to doodling and every time I think I have come up with a new pattern I find out someone else has already done that. If the opportunity ever came up too sell something how on earth do you give credit to all these people?

  8. I have been collecting tangle patterns for several months now and I have to tell you how creative your designs are and how fun it is to follow your step outs. I love doing Katie’s Dots and Shauna so far. I am looking forward to exploring your website. Keep those great tangles coming!
